The beautifully decorated Arctic Snowhotel & Glass Igloos opened its doors in 2008 and has since become popular with travellers from all over the world. The resort is located 26 km from Rovaniemi, in the village of Sinettä on the shores of Lake Lehtojärvi. Inside Arctic SnowHotel you will find approximately 30 rooms, an Ice chapel, Ice Restaurant, Ice Bar and Sky Bar.
The SnowHotel is one of the largest snow carved hotels in the Nordic countries. The walls and furniture surfaces are decorated with ice art and coloured lighting.
Here you will spend the night in a room made of snow in a warm sleeping bag on a bed of ice covered by reindeer furs. The temperature will be a comfortable 0 to -5 degrees, a pleasant difference to the outdoors which sometimes reaches up to minus 30 degrees. No special equipment is required, other than warm outdoor clothes suited for winter, but it is highly recommended to pack long underwear, a hat and wool socks to wear inside the sleeping bag.
A traditional Finnish Sauna is included during your stay; daily for women at 21:00-22:00 & 08:00-09:00 hrs and men at 22:00-23:00 & 09:00-10:00 hrs. Please note that the SnowHotel does not have separate toilets and showers in each room but there is a shared toilet close to the hotel rooms, inside SnowHotel.
The aurora alert service system is available for those who wish during the night. In the morning, the SnowHotel guide will wake you up with hot berry juice served in your room before it is time to enjoy breakfast in the Log restaurant. You will receive a certificate of achievement celebrating your overnight stay in arctic conditions inside walls made of snow and ice.
At the resort you can enjoy Lappish delicacies, either savoured around ice tables at the Ice Restaurant built of snow and ice providing a unique setting for an unforgettable dinner - or at the warm and cosy Kota Restaurant, which is located on the hotel’s lake shore, next to the lakeside sauna. The blazing fire creates a magical ambiance in the small kota shelter.
The Sky bar is located in the same building as Kota Restaurant. On the ground floor you will find a bar serving cocktails with a local twist along with other drinks and small snacks. The Sky bar opens up in the afternoon and closes late in the evening, When it is dark and the sky is clear, head up to the second floor where you may see the northern lights through the glass roof!
At the Ice Bar you don’t order a drink with ice, you order a drink in ice. A frozen icy glass gives the drinks a totally new dimension and the experience is beyond compare.
The reception area also has a cafeteria and a small gift shop. The building made from massive logs is a magnificent sight in itself.
During your stay you can borrow snowshoes, toboggans and kick sledges free of charge. A visit to Snowman World at Santa Claus Village is also included and for those staying nearby, it is possible to take the the free shuttle from Santa Claus Village to Arctic Snowhotel & Glass Igloos.
